My position on the North-South Interconnector has remained consistent
over the years. I have always supported using the most up to date
technology regarding the undergrounding of these types of
developments. We are awaiting further reports from the Department of
Communications, Climate Action and the Environment in that regard.
My preference is that this project would be undergrounded as much as
possible and not cause undue distress for individuals and communities
impacted. I will continue to work with local land owners and other
stakeholders towards this objective. Eirgrid must treat people with
respect, something that has not happened in many instances.
I am in ongoing contact with Minister Denis Naughten T.D. and his
officials regarding this project. I will continue to fight for my
constituents in Meath East.
The technical report looking further into the under grounding option
is due in the coming weeks, along with a report into the level of
compensation offered internationally to farmers on whose land pylons
are constructed. I await both of these reports with great interest.
