Monday, 29th May 2017
Minister of State for Mental Health McEntee today launched Connecting for Life: Kerry,a suicide prevention and self-harm plan for the area. This is the local implementation of Connecting for LifeIreland’s National Strategy to Reduce Suicide.

Speaking at the launch, Minister McEntee said “This action plan for Kerry is based on the same vision, goals, objectives and measurable outcomes as outlined in the national strategy. It sets out a vision where fewer lives are lost through suicide, and where communities and individuals are empowered to improve their mental health and wellbeing.”

The Minister went on to thank all those involved, “Kerry Suicide Prevention Planning Group (SPPG) was established in September 2015, with the aim of developing an integrated action plan that would assist in the prevention of suicide and self-harm and the promotion of positive mental health in Kerry. The plan launched today is the result of the hard work of a huge number of individuals, community groups, statutory and non-government agencies, working together to promote positive mental health. I congratulate all involved in the creation of this plan.”

Minister McEntee concluded, “This Kerry suicide prevention plan sets out a roadmap to address suicide and self-harm. It is important that we all continue to work together, at all levels, to identify people at risk and to ensure that appropriate services are in place to provide the help and support needed. If we do this, I believe that we will achieve our goal of fewer lives lost to suicide.”
