Following on from a public meeting last week, where local Residents gathered to voice their concerns and fears, Deputy McEntee said, ‘there have been 6 arson attacks in the village over the past month. The local school has been targeted as well as local homes within the village.
‘Residents are living in fear and it is not acceptable that they should feel under threat or be made to worry that their home or property may be targeted next.
‘I will of course continue to work closely with the community and the newly formed local residents Committee. We must eliminate the tangible fear that is prevalent in the locality at the moment and reassure people.
‘I have also been engaging with the Department of Education to seek assistance for funding for a CCTV camera system to protect the school and its grounds.
‘It’s important that if anyone has any information on the incidents that have happened please contact the Gardaí in confidence.
‘We need to work together as a community and find whose responsible for these incidents. It is vital that people feel safe in their homes and that they can go about their daily lives without feeling afraid’.
